Robin Hanan Board Member
Robin Hanan brings over three decades of leadership experience in organisations dedicated to equality, social justice, and peace. Before entering the community and voluntary sector, he served as a civil servant in the Departments of Transport, Tourism, Trade, and Foreign Affairs, gaining valuable insight into public policy and international cooperation.
As former CEO of Comhlámh, Robin led programmes supporting volunteers engaged in global education, international solidarity, and advocacy for social justice. During this period, he also convened the Asylum Rights Alliance, a national coalition advocating for refugee and asylum-seeker rights.
Robin later served as Director of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland, where he trained and supported national and local organisations to engage with Irish and European anti-poverty policies. Within the broader European network, he chaired the Social Inclusion Policy Group, strengthening cooperation between governments and NGOs across EU member states.
As former CEO of the Irish Refugee Council, Robin championed the rights and welfare of refugees and migrants, work that continues to inspire his ongoing voluntary commitments, including his contributions to the Glencree Intercultural and Refugee Programme on its Board.
Since retiring in 2018, Robin has continued to play an active role in the community and voluntary sector, serving on several boards and advisory committees. He is currently Chairperson of Voluntary Service International (VSI), promoting peace, social justice, and sustainable development, and continues to provide voluntary support to human rights organisations, particularly in strategic planning, governance and facilitation.
