Martin Luther King Day Event 19 Jan 2009

As the USA prepares to inaugurate the first African-American President with the chosen theme of 'a new birth of freedom', leaders from 72 of Ireland's ethnic minority communities will mark the occasion with a seminar on the experiences and hopes for our new political voices.

For discussion will be the experiences of working in the Irish political context for the past ten years where there is no real tradition of ethnic minority politics.

Looking at the USA experience, they will discuss their concerns about the readiness of Irish people and the Irish state to embrace political activism from new perspectives. Can the shift in international politics create possibilities here?
