Professional Artists from Immigrant & New Communities Sought

29 May 2012

At the Sound Desk, 2011

The Arts Offices of both Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council are leading research into the practices of professional artists from immigrant and new communities backgrounds in their respective two council areas.

This research will hopefully not only contribute greatly to national knowledge on the needs of these individuals, but also to the enhancement of working practices within the arts. The project partners also include South Dublin County Social Inclusion Unit, Tallaght Community Arts, Dublin City Social Inclusion Unit and the city-based, New Communities Partnership and will produce/address the following;

- An audit immigrant and cultural practitioners and their practices in Dublin City and South Dublin County

- An assessment of needs, barriers and challenges faced in building careers in Ireland.

- Collecting baseline information towards policy formation and to identify administrative systems that can support inclusion

Participants are now being sought to help with this research and their involvement may include completing a short survey and a telephone conversation.

The commissioners of this research recognise the challenges in reaching professional artists from immigrant and new communities backgrounds across the Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council areas and therefore ask artists and arts and cultural groups throughout the two council areas help promote this research to the wider arts community.
